Rachel Schafer RN, BSN

As a Registered Nurse with seven years of experience, a 200-hour Certified Yoga Teacher, and a Reiki Level 1 & 2 Practitioner, I am passionate about a holistic approach to health and healing. Through my background and going on my own ongoing healing journey, I have gained the tools and modalities to view healing from a holistic lens, focusing on all parts of a person- mind, body, and soul. Throughout my years of working as a nurse, I have worked in various roles and settings including a Trauma/Surgical unit, the Recovery room and Pre- and Post-operative departments, in both hospitals and outpatient surgery centers. I have touched thousands of lives with my warm, calming and compassionate demeanor.

Through the beautiful, ancient practices of reiki and yoga, I guide and hold space for others as they explore their own inner landscape. I help clients connect to their body’s innate inner wisdom and healing capabilities, while I am a guide who is providing them the safe space to dive deeper into all parts of themselves. I especially love the modalities of reiki and yoga, because they help us access our “rest and digest” nervous system state where true healing happens. It is my mission to share these holistic tools and modalities with others so they can work towards returning to their wholeness and living their healthiest, happiest, most aligned and fulfilling lives.

I grew up and resided in western New York all of my life until my fiancé and I moved to Ventura county last year in 2023. I absolutely love this area and am so grateful to have landed here. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially at the beach, fostering my own yoga practice, reading, traveling, and cooking healthy recipes.

What is reiki?!

Ki=life energy- the vital life force or energy that flows through all living things

Reiki is an ancient Japanese alternative healing technique that channels universal life-force energy into the areas that the recipient needs it. It is often used as a complimentary therapy to traditional medical treatments. The inherent wisdom of the recipient’s body knows exactly where the reiki energy is needed and directs it to the area of highest priority. Reiki treats the whole person- both the energetic and physical bodies. Emotions are energy in motion. When our emotions become stuck or stagnant in our bodies, this can cause dis-ease in the body. Reiki helps release stuck and stagnant emotions from the body and energetic centers, or chakras. It can often bring subconscious thoughts and feelings into consciousness so they may be worked through and released. As a reiki practitioner, I am simply the channel or conduit through which the reiki energy flows into the recipient, acknowledging that the recipient holds the power to heal.

During a reiki session with me, you can expect to start the session with a short conversation so I can understand what you are seeking treatment for, what your goals are, and answer any questions you may have. You will then lay down on the treatment table and get comfortable, remaining fully clothed. I will play soothing music as I guide you into relaxation and begin the flow of reiki! I will be hovering my hands a few inches from your body, without ever touching you directly, as I move my hands along the length of your body to channel the flow of the energy. Most clients experience a sense of deep relaxation or a dream-like state. You may also notice sensations like tingling, heat, cold, or feel emotions come up and want to release them through crying. Everyone’s experience is different though! There is no “right” way to experience receiving reiki. As long as you are open to receiving the energy, you can be assured that the reiki is working exactly as it is meant to. After the reiki is complete, you will be gently guided back into the space and we will discuss your experience for the remainder of our time.

What is yoga?!

Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India, focusing on connecting the body, mind and spirit through physical postures (asana in Sanskrit), breathing exercises, and meditation. During a yoga class, we will flow from pose to pose, linking our breath to our movements. Yoga asana is quite literally a moving meditation. It helps us drop into our bodies and the present moment while dropping out of the modern “monkey-mind.” Our bodies hold onto emotion, trauma, memories, etc, so connecting with and moving the body helps us move anything that may be stuck in the body. Yoga is truly for every body. No matter how flexible you are, the size of your body, or if you have a physical injury, you can still do yoga. There is no “wrong” way to do yoga and there is no being “good” or “bad” at it. As long as you show up and do your best to stay connected to your body, breath and the present moment, you are doing yoga. Yoga has many benefits including stress reduction, increased mindfulness, mental clarity and increased strength to name a few. My yoga classes typically have a flowy vinyasa feel to them without being overly strenuous. They are open to people of all levels and I will provide modifications and options for different ability levels. I also like to emphasize that my instruction of poses are simply suggestions. Your sacred time on your yoga mat is yours to move and breathe as you wish.
